Every so often I receive an email from someone regarding the Sunken Ships of the Outer Banks. I enjoy hearing from people who have come across the website and have enjoyed it. This was an email I received last week. Thanks Runar!
Fun fact: The way they write the name in Norway is Flåten, and "en flåte" in Norwegian translates to "a raft" in English, so he is "Captain Raft"... a bit fun I think...

Hi
I am currently scanning 15.000 old family photos, and these were scanned today (and 1 in 2020).
I got curious and searched for the ship's name and found your story about the sinking.
The man in the pictures is captain Carl Alexander Flaathen or Alec as my family calls him.
He was born in 1890 in Drammen, Norway. Carl's brother Gabriel is my great-grandfather.
My mother (soon to be 88 years) has told me that he was torpedoed 2 times, survived both. But she did not know anything more. Thanks to you I can now tell her, and my entire family the story.

Big thx from Norway.
Best regards
